Found 2 dead of same species about 15 years ago in very nearly the same location DOR on highway 49. Surrounding habitat disjunct pine-oak woodland. Much human habitation within. This is a male. Two previously seen were male and female. All mature. Seems as though this is a first Sierra Nevada population of Sciurus niger.
