Sadly, this skunk is the first I’ve seen in this neighborhood. Hit and killed by a car sometime last night (it wasn’t there at 8:30 pm, and the smell wasn’t very noticeable when I saw it this morning). Not sure the sex. The neighborhood is a dense suburb, mostly small lotted one story homes. 1 mile from the ocean, with undeveloped dunes and beaches, but also highway 1. ½ mile from Fort Ord National Monument which is largely chaparral, coastal live oak, scrub.
