Dead
Animal
Common Garter Snake
Observation Date / Time
I was between the California Red-sided Gartersnake and the Coast Gartersnake. It was identified to these two based on pattern and coloration. Ultimately, I landed on this California Red-sided Gartersnake because of the differences between the two specie's patterns in the red. The Coast Gartersnake has red with black dots, whereas the California Red-sided Gartersnake has mostly black with red door-openings (see: http://www.californiaherps.com/snakes/images/tsinfernaliscv062.jpg for an example).
56 F, cloudy. Humidity 84%. Unable to sex.
Was found on asphalt road, probably was run over by a car. It was found at Arcata Marsh, where it was close to bushes.
