I found this dead mouse, which appeared very light on the asphalt, but when I placed it on the white painted curb, it seemed to look darker in the photo. Ironically, I actually saw a live one a couple of miles up the road that crossed the road in front of me from the chaparral and into the grass. I wasn't fast enough to get a photo, but it definitely had the long tail with the fuzzy ball on the end, and did hop on its larger hind legs.
