Observation Date / Time
Coastal sage scrub, heavily infested with non-native grasses, all around. This sparrow in juvenal plumage lacked a head, complicating ID. The only breeding sparrows in this area are Rufous-crowned and Sage. The buff cast to the breast, relatively pronounced breast streaking, and lack of rufous edging on secondaries lead me to believe it was a Bell's Sage Sparrow rather than a Rufous-crowned.
