On Sunday, April 22, 2017, at 1900 hrs, Bighorn Institute received a report of a bighorn hit on Hwy 74 south of Palm Desert from CHP. Institute biologists immediately investigated and found an adult ewe on the east side of the road across from the first pullout below Vista Point. CHP was at the scene but the motorist involved in the accident didn't stop. The ewe perished at 1945 hrs and CDFW was going to retrieve the carcass that evening.
