Recently graded road; anecdotal accounts of increased speeds in the lower portion of Titus Canyon. Visitor reported a hit-by-car Bighorn to the Park's dispatch at 1830 p.m. PDT last night. Myself and two Law Enforcement Rangers went to the scene where the Ewe was located. Her injuries were sufficient that there was no likelihood of survival. One of the LE Rangers dispatched her at 1955 p.m. Her right foreleg was fractured in four places and the hoof was nearly severed. Her right femur was dislocated, probably related to the pelvis fracture. She was pregnant with a male lamb that was still several weeks from being full term. Tissue was collected from both carcasses for inclusion in a genetic study at Oregon State University; and for pathological examination by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (related to the Pneumonia outbreak in other Ovis Canadensis nelsoni herds in the region).
