I've recorded several roadkills on this section of Algerine-Wards Ferry, mostly birds and small mammals. The shoulder is vegetated with a 5 to 6 strand barb wire fence or no climb woven fence approximately 6 - 8 feet from the roads edge. Vegetation beyond the fence is California Annual Grassland and Blue Oak/Interior Live Oak. A small wetland is approximately 200 feet to the northwest. Temperatures have been in the high 80's to low 90's over the past six days with many gopher and rattlesnakes seen along the edge of the roadway. I've stopped twice in the past week to remove what I thought were dead gopher snakes on the shoulder only to find them alive. In both cases, the snakes were between 38 and 48 inches in length.
