The identifying criteria aren't clear in the photo. My picture of the dorsal surface was out of focus, so I didn't include it, but this toad had darker blotches on a pale greenish-gray dorsal surface, lacking the light mid-dorsal line characteristic of Bufo boreas. Not every day you find a dead spadefoot in the road.
