This vehicle strike likely occurred earlier in the day but the snake had been struck repeatedly over the course of the day. It was a clear and sunny afternoon. The habitat surrounding the site is valley saltbush scrub but the shoulder is not vegetated. By the afternoon the snake was completely flattened but the dorsal marking indicates that it is a gopher snake.
