This was a juvenal Mourning Dove, as shown by the ruler next to the bird. Adult birds measure 12 inches long. I found a flimsy stick nest, typical of Mourning Doves, in a nearby eucalyptus tree, possibly the nest it came from. It looked like it had been hit earlier today. There is a river channel just to the north, and open marshy fields to the south, with just a few trees nearby.
