The skunk looks like it was hit in the head. I couldn't find any blood trails nearby, and the only apparent injuries were to its head. The corpse didn't smell much, surprisingly, which makes me think it was more fresh than not. The corpse also seemed kind of soft. I didn't test it thoroughly for rigor mortis, but it was soft to the toe tap.
