Dead - hit by a car. Many of the horned larks gather on road tops in early am and pm these past few days. Cars moving faster than 50 or 60mph are - in areas with much grass habitat- are likely to hit one as they fly up erratically just beforehand.
Seems there are many H lark and young rabbit roadkills this time of the season here.
