This was my second or third observation of these birds at the base of a power pole, off the roadway. One is clearly a red tail hawk, the other might be a female red tail or another species of hawk. The picture shows various numbers on the equipment which will enable finding this exact spot on Highland Drive (north side) in La Canada Flintridge. The lat-lon derived from the map is APPROXIMATE.
Southern California Edison has been working on many power lines in LCF recently. Finding the two birds at the base of the pole immediately suggested to me that the birds may have been electrocuted while landing on the wires at the top of the pole, especially if SCE changed the configuration on what might have been a regular perch for the hawks. (A photo of the top of the pole is available; I couldn't add a second photo to this report.)
The hawks were apparently moved by someone, maybe twice, between my three observations.
